Northwest Missouri State University students are invited to submit their best work for presentation at the annual Celebration of Quality, an interdisciplinary symposium spotlighting exceptional student work throughout campus.
Submissions for this year’s Celebration of Quality are being accepted until Friday, March 3. Students may submit any successfully completed work from the current trimester or the previous year. The selection committee also will consider submissions of work to be completed after the March 3 deadline so long as it has a faculty sponsor and the work will be ready for presentation at the symposium.
Sponsored jointly by the Society of President’s Scholars and the Office of the Provost, the symposium gives the University community a chance to view student work across disciplines, while placing participating students’ work in front of an audience beyond the classroom.
“The Celebration of Quality always lives up to its name,” Dr. Elyssa Ford, assistant professor of history and faculty sponsor of the Society of President’s Scholars, said. “It’s a time each year for students, faculty and staff to come together and celebrate the amazing quality of work that students at Northwest produce.”
The symposium is open to all students at Northwest and its Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing.
Past submissions have included creative writing, original research papers and analytical papers. Participants have given speeches, conducted panel discussions and displayed original works of art and visual summaries of their projects in science, education and business. Participants also have presented dramatic readings and performed or analyzed music.
“The Celebration is open to many different types of presentations,” Ford said. “You can read from a paper or prepare a poster, but you also can present an app or game you have designed, discuss an internship experience, or showcase a lesson or project you prepared for an education or practicum class.”
The symposium will be 3 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union. The event includes sessions before and after a congratulatory banquet where submissions will be displayed for students and their faculty sponsors. Tickets may also be purchased for guests.
