'American Politics & Our Democratic Principles' is Topic of Spring Colloquium Series(미국항공유학)

Minnesota State University, Mankato President Richard Davenport and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Marilyn Wells announced that Minnesota State Mankato is holding a spring 2017 series of five colloquiums on campus titled “American Politics & Our Democratic Principles.”

The series’ first event is a panel discussion titled “Separation of Church & State: Constitutional Principles, Contemporary Issues” on Tuesday, March 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.

All five events in the series are free and open to the public, and the series will be live-streamed here. The format for each session will be a moderated panel discussion with an introduction, three-four speakers for five-eight minutes each, questions and open discussion for 20-30 minutes and closing remarks. All views are welcome. Deliberative discussions and light refreshments will follow each event.

Davenport and Wells encouraged both the public and campus community to participate in the colloquium discussions.

“Minnesota State University, Mankato is proud to be holding this series to allow both the campus community and citizens in our local community to come together to discuss democracy in our country today,” said Davenport.

“This promises to be a reflective and intellectually engaging series relevant to all members of the general public as well as our University community,” said Wells.

Tuesday’s discussion moderator will be Pat Nelson, assistant professor of law enforcement. Panelists and what they discuss include Jacqueline Vieceli, professor of political science (background and philosophical issues); Fred Slocum, associate professor of political science (contemporary cases and issues, including the Establishment Clause); Tim Berg, professor emeritus (local examples of separation of church & state issues); and Ana Perez, assistant professor of gender and women’s studies (current immigration and religious issues).
