Kennesaw State University will eliminate its mandatory commuter meal plan for students, effective Fall 2017, and it will begin reducing costs for commuter students beginning January 2017. The proposed changes were approved today by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

In July 2016, Kennesaw State Interim President Houston Davis announced that he expected to eliminate the commuter meal plan by Fall 2018.

“We made a promise to eliminate commuter meal plans and in doing so a full year earlier than anticipated, we have demonstrated our commitment to helping our students, especially as it relates to college affordability,” said Davis. “In the meantime, we will uphold our promise to provide some financial relief to commuter students this spring.”

According to the plan, Kennesaw State’s mandatory commuter student meal plan will be reduced from $475 to $324 for all commuter full-time first year students, a $151 savings per semester. Full-time commuter sophomores and juniors will see their meal plans nearly cut in half, from $160 to $84, $76 in savings per semester. In April 2016, the BOR approved the elimination of the mandatory commuter meal plan for all commuting seniors, which took effect this fall.
