This project is scheduled to complete by February 2018. The following is a current update on the status of this project and how it affects you, and your campus. Feel free to share this information with anyone you feel would benefit from it.
Please help us communicate the changes in as many ways and as much as possible!
If you have any questions, please contact Christine Benner at Christine.Benner@MinnState.edu or Kurt Reinhard at Kurt.Reinhard@MinnState.edu.
Lyris – List Manager: the system office staff email addresses were updated by the service desk staff weeks ago. The new URL has been deployed and is being tested by a few list admins including me; this is coming from the new domain:).
Old portal: lists.mnscu.edu
New portal: lists.minnstate.edu
Old email address: list name@lists.mnscu.edu
New email address: list name@lists.MinnState.edu
Everyone will begin using the new domain and email address format the week of September 10, 2017. The old domain will be deactivated November 8, 2017. Communication will go out to all of the listserv administrators to stop using the old portal and addresses (MNSCU.edu), and to begin using listserv name@lists.MinnState.edu. The listserv admins will be responsible for communicating the new address out to their list members.
Several listserves need to be renamed as they use MnSCU to the right of @ sign. The service desk team will contact the administrators to ask about changing the name. An example of this is the mnscutechnologyleadership@lists.mnscu.edu. I refer to this as the CIO plus listserv, it will become MinnStatetechnology@lists.mnscu.edu.
Ongoing Reminders:
1. Email addresses for all system office staff have changed. The old system office @MnSCU.edu e-mail addresses will be deactivated in the beginning of November (the exact date is pending).
Old: Firstname.Lastname@mnscu.edu
New: Firstname.Lastname@minnstate.edu
a. Update their personal address books
b. Update any groups they have that include system office staff
c. Update documents that include contact information for system office staff.
2. A majority of the web pages have migrated to www.MinnState.edu . Departments are continuing to work on migrating webpages to the new domain. Currently web pages work in both the old and new domains. We need everyone to update links that are on documents or webpages to reflect the new domain.
a. Update bookmarks
b. Update and webpages
c. Update documents
Information from last Week:
CAP Servers: System office staff is currently working on a document that will be sent to the campus CAP server representatives and the CIOs. This document will provide directions on making the necessary changes needed to CAP servers. Christine will work with each campus to schedule the date to make the changes; our goal is to have this change completed for all campuses between September 18, 2017 and October 27, 2017.
D2L: The domain change for D2L will take place on December 27, 2017.
Old: schoolnameacronym.ims.mnscu.edu
New: schoolnameacronym.learn.minnstate.edu
Each school has its own unique D2L site and D2L login page URL. This URL change will have the most obvious impact on faculty, students, and staff. Once the domain change occurs, the old URL will no longer work. Users will be re-directed to the new URL and will need to update any bookmarks in their browsers. The re-direct will last for 30 days, after which the old URL will simply be a dead address that will not take the user to the new URL.
There are numerous behind-the-scenes changes to D2L app and utility servers. The domain change will also require coordination of the 75+ third party publishers that integrate with D2L courses. These changes will all be made by the coordinated efforts of system office staff, the D2L vendor and the 75+ third party vendors.
Furthermore, within the D2L courses, faculty may have links in their course materials and course files that will need to be updated to the new domain URL. The D2L System Site Admin team is working on a script to search for and identify those links, as well as another script that could potentially automatically update the links. Faculty union reps are aware of the need for link updates and will review the options, and recommend a course of action, whether it be an automated script run by the system office team, or manual updates performed by faculty themselves.”
Identity Management Self-Service & Support (StarID): The new web address has been deployed and is functional the links and bookmarks must be updated before the old domain is deactivated October 1, 2017.
Old: https://starid.mnscu.edu
New: https://starid.minnstate.edu
MOVEit Securely: The URL for MOVEit Securely will change, September 12, 2017 and the old address will be deactivated November 3, 2017. We will have communication ready to be sent out to the campus community in the next week or two. Making sure that all bookmarks and references are updated will be crucial.
