Several students, faculty and staff were recognized at Georgia Gwinnett College’s fall convocation ceremony, held yesterday. This ceremonial tradition recognizes and celebrates academic achievement and the contributions of those demonstrating excellence in the four pillars of the GGC culture – scholarship, leadership, service and creativity.
“Today, we reflect on what it means to be part of a college not only devoted to the highest standards and ideals of our profession, but committed to improving those standards and ideals, to pushing the limits on what is possible, and daring to challenge the status quo,” said Dr. T.J. Arant, senior vice president for Academic and Student Affairs and provost.

Lutz, known for his creative teaching methods and dedication to helping students master concepts, presented the ceremony’s keynote address. He reflected on the positive and negative patterns of teaching he experienced himself as a student, as well as other influences on his own instruction.
“I have grown to more thoughtfully consider my earliest impressions of a situation,” said Lutz who joined the GGC faculty in 2011. “More practically, in the classroom, we often know almost immediately if an intervention is not working.”
The ceremony also included the welcome of 47 new faculty members to the college, which now serves about 13,000 students.
“Our faculty’s commitment to best practices, innovative instruction and student engagement and mentorship are the heart of what makes this college special,” said GGC President Stas Preczewski in his remarks. “And we could not be more excited to welcome you to this incredible, history-making, game-changing team. Together, we will continue to transform lives, families and communities.”
