Class of 2020: High school valedictorian plans for a career in aerospace technology_

Milledgeville has been home to Akash Patel for the last eight years. He attended Baldwin County Schools and was even named valedictorian of the Baldwin High class of 2016.

“When I was looking at schools, I knew I wanted to stay close to my family,” he said. “I didn’t want to leave such a quiet place like Milledgeville, and Georgia College is such a great environment.”

The oldest of four kids, learning has always come naturally for Patel.

“For a couple of semesters, I did the dual enrollment program through Georgia Military College, so I have some college credit coming in. Even though I was valedictorian, I know I will have to study more in college, so I’m ready for that.

Since a young age he’s been interested in aerospace, and he knew Georgia College was great place to kick-start his career aspirations.

“I’m joining the dual degree program in physics,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to work for NASA or Boeing to be able to produce shuttle or plane models cheaper to help with the budgets.”

With big plans for his time here, he knows Georgia College will quickly become a home for him.

“I’m just very excited about starting college. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this university,” said Patel. “When I met Gov. Nathan Deal at the reception honoring all valedictorians, he mentioned to me that his wife went to school here, so that’s really cool.”
