16-person committee to conduct AD search(센트럴미시건대학교)Central Michigan University

Sixteen faculty, staff and alumni will lead the way in identifying candidates for Central Michigan University's next associate vice president and director of athletics.

President George E. Ross appointed the committee as Dave Heeke completes his final three weeks at CMU before taking the lead athletics role at the University of Arizona. 

Bob Martin, vice president for advancement, will chair the committee. Also serving as committee members:

Luke Anderson, Student Government Association representative;

John Bonamego, head coach, football;

Antonio Brown, former student-athlete;

Cali Clark, human resources representative;

James Fabiano Sr., national capital campaign steering committee;

Mike Franckowiak, national capital campaign steering committee;

Cristy Freese, executive associate athletics director/sports administration;

Sue Guevara, head coach, women's basketball;

Jan Hagland, national alumni board;

Bill Kanine, CMU trustee;

Dave Keilitz, national capital campaign steering committee, retired CMU athletics director;

Kristen Knutson, student-athlete;

Kevin Love, faculty athletics representative;

Alysa Lucas, faculty athletics committee; and

Stan Shingles, assistant vice president, university recreation.

The position will be posted this week. The search will begin immediately. Ross said he has decided against hiring a search firm at this point because of extensive interest being expressed in the role. The committee is urged to consider recruitment efforts such as personal contacts, notices to universities and professional groups, and advertisements in trade journals.

"It's clear to me the world knows Central Michigan University is hiring an athletics director," Ross said. "This committee will have many high-quality candidates to assess and interview."

The committee is charged with identifying three to five finalists who will meet confidentially with the president and representatives of the campus community.

Ross outlined his vision for the search in the late February announcement about Heeke's departure: "We will seek candidates committed to furthering our championship culture, who agree that athletes are students first, and who have an unwavering commitment to upholding CMU's reputation as one of just 13 universities without a major NCAA violation. 

"We seek a leader who represents all that CMU is, who is an excellent fundraiser and who will be an integral member of the CMU community."

Well-regarded and with a record of success, Heeke has been at CMU 11 years. He worked from his first day on campus to create a championship culture centered on excellence in athletics, academics and community service.
