Freshman Ashton Mutuwa placed fourth and nine of the 14 Truman Wrestlers won at least two matches each at the Central College Under Armour Invitational on Saturday.
Mutuwa, competing in the 285-pound bracket was dealt a 12-10 loss in his first match of the day. He was then victorious four straight times, a 6-4 decision, a 4-3 decision and an 11-8 win before getting to the third place match via a medical forfeit in the semifinals. He lost a tight 2-1 match to Mario Pena from North Iowa Area CC.
Three other Bulldogs won their first two matches of the day. Rafael Lopez reached the semifinals of the 141-pound bracket after a pinfall win and 3-1 decision. He fell to the eventual bracket winner, Nathan Ryan of Briar Cliff. He dropped to the semifinals of the wrestlebacks and lost in overtime 7-6.
Zach Taylor won his first two matches to reach the quarterfinals of the 157 bracket. He was a 7-4 and 10-3 winner before dropping an 8-0 decision to Morningside (Iowa) Keegan Putnam. Taylor won 6-3 in the consolation side of the draw but was knocked out by tech fall in the quarters.
Same Reeves won his first match 16-2 over Ryan Paige (Graceland) then defeated Sedrak Sheppard (North Iowa) to reach the 197 semifinals. Reeves lost a close 4-2 decision over top seeded and eventual champion Matt Seabold (Central College) and bowed out in his next match.
The Bulldogs will travel to Atchison, Kansas on Thursday night for a dual with Benedictine College.
